Dear staff,

It has come to our attention that the correct Uniform Policy is not being followed when attending shifts. Our clients have advised that they have noticed staff wearing a large amount of jewellery, sometimes scruffy pants/skirts and some staff wearing runners.

Please ensure you are always following our Uniform Policy (see below) and which was given to you in your welcome pack when you first registered with the agency.

Uniform Policy firstcall HEALTH On-hired Assigned Workers

Nurses, carers, nursing assistants and disability support workers have a legislated right to wear clothing that is consistent with their occupation and Occupational Health & Safety demands.

While firstcall HEALTH believes nurses / carers have the right to make informed decisions about their work clothing, we provide you with some guidelines that helps achieve suitable standards.
The nature of our business is such that firstcall HEALTH representatives are in view of the public. Our clients and our reputation is determined by the impression we create. Your personal appearance should therefore be to a suitable standard.

7.1 Definitions
Work clothing covers – uniform, footwear and other items worn by a nurse / carer including lanyards and ID badges.

7.2 Policy
Our uniform policy covers dress / uniform standards when you are assigned to a client facility with firstcall HEALTH. While we understand nurses / carers have the right to choose their own appropriate uniform, there are standards which firstcall HEALTH expect and the nurse / carer must take these into consideration.

The following uniform / dress guidelines and standards must be applied when assigned with firstcall HEALTH:

  • Navy blue or black trousers
    Navy blue or black skirt
    Blue or White shirt/polo
Flat rubber sole enclosed shoes (black preferably)
Jewellery and nail polish are NOT to be worn
Hair tied up or back if long enough
ID badge visible at all times with logo side visible

firstcall HEALTH has its specified uniforms available for you to purchase if you require. This is at a cost of $37.50 (tax deductible). While firstcall HEALTH specified uniforms are not compulsory, we do encourage our registered on-hired staff to purchase this uniform which reinforces a professional image and unity across our team.

7.3 Registration & ID badges
All nurses registered with firstcall HEALTH and assigned to a workplace by us must carry their original nursing registration certificate from the nurse’s board to each shift. This is a requirement of the host employer / facility we assign you to and in turn required by firstcall HEALTH.

ID badges must be worn at all times while assigned to a shift by firstcall HEALTH. Exceptions are acceptable only where a facility requires you to substitute a pass for security purposes.
We note that if you fail to wear the necessary ID or security ID badge you run the risk of being terminated from the shift and asked to leave the facility. Such cases will be deemed negligence on your part and wage payments for that shift maybe withheld and/or forfeited.
